Something I just made. Don't know if it quite captures the idea I originally had, thought of a different ending while writing (have that a lot) and went for that. But tell me what work I'll need to do and it shall be done.
INT. DISCO - NIGHT
People dance. Bodies meet. Red, green and blue lights flicker. In the moving masses stands one BOY. Still. Silent. His name is DREBEN, 17 yeard old.
DREBEN (V.0.)
(his voice is old)
I met her only twice. We made eyecontact the first time. She laughed, I laughed back. I had a girlfriend at that time.
INT. DISCO - NIGHT
Title: one year later.
People dance. Bodies meet. And in the middle stands Dreben as motionless as before.
DREBEN (V.O.)
Second time I met her I knew she was the one. I knew she thought about me the same way as I felt about her. I knew. I saw it.
EXT. STREET - DAY
A buzy street, cars trying to manoevre past the pedestrians who on their turn are trying to walk past each other. Dreben walks through the street. His eyes light up, his heart skips a beat and he stands motionless.
A GIRL(18) with brown hair turns around.
Dreben continues his walk.
DREBEN (V.O.)
It?s funny, if you love a girl, each other girl you see resembles something of her.
Dreben walks further, eyes rapidly hovering over every girl in the streets.
DREBEN (V.O.) (cont?d)
And when I tried to picture her, she resembles something of every girl.
EXT. SHOP - DAY
Dreben works behind the counter and packs a present for a guy. A BRUNETTE(18) walks in. Dreben gives a curious look.
DREBEN (V.O.)
You start to wonder. Will she still remember me if I meet her again?
INT. DISCO - NIGHT
Title: one year later
The masses dance. Dreben stands in the middle and looks around. A pretty BABE is checking him out. Dreben smiles back and then starts looking over the crowds again.
DREBEN (V.O.)
Is it worth it? Is it worth the wait? Is it worth the trouble?
EXT. PARK - DAY
A WOMAN walks pushing her babywagon next to a MAN.
DREBEN (V.O.)
But true loves exists. It still does. I know.
Dreben looks at the man and the woman. He has aged, grown a small 3-day-old-beard. He turns
INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY
Around. He?s in his late twenties. Stares outside the window. A GIRL(26) joins him, kisses him on the cheek and leaves. Dreben remains motionless.
DREBEN (V.O.)
We all need love.
The reflection of the girl in the window, walking to her car and waving at Dreben.
DREBEN (V.O.) (cont?d)
Could I love someone else? Could I lie to myself?
The girl drives away. Dreben left alone. Still motionless. Staring outside.
DREBEN (V.O.) (cont?d)
I think I could.
INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY
Dreben?s is in his thirties. The Girl from the last scene (who?s now turned into a woman) whispers something in his ear and kisses him on the cheek, followed by a little BOY who jumps on his lap and punches him in the stomach.
DREBEN (V.O.)
I did.
Dreben falls back, pretends to be suffocating. The Boy smiles but doesn?t dare smiling too much - it might be for real.
Dreben grabs him by his leg, jumps up and lifts the boy along with him. They laugh.
INT. DINING ROOM - DAY
Dreben, the woman and the boy are having diner. They look content.
DREBEN (V.O.)
But I still waited.
EXT. STREET - DAY
Dreben moves through the pedestrians. He doesn?t look around that much anymore, but occasional glances to some specific women are given.
DREBEN (V.O.)
Each day not looking out, not trying to find her... Was a day wasted. And I wasted many.
Dreben stops walking. Stares at
A GIRL(17) standing on the opposite side of the street.
DREBEN (V.O.) (cont?d)
It?s funny how each girl can resemble something of the one you love.
INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT
Dreben?s looking at his wife who?s fast asleep.
DREBEN (V.O.)
She could be her mother. She could be her doughter. Maybe her sister.
EXT. STREET - DAY
It?s fall. Leaves are dropping, coloring the streets orange-brown. The Woman?s walking with the Boy on the street.
DREBEN (V.O.)
Was it worth it? Did I waste my time following the girl of my dreams?
INT. ROOM - EVENING
A room unkown. A MAN sits with his back towards us.
DREBEN
If only I had talked to her. If only I?d met her again.
We can finally see Dreben?s old face. He?s over sixty years old.
DREBEN (cont?d)
I wouldn?t be here.
A silent pause. Dreben?s eyes stare bluntly forward.
VOICE
You know what your problem is?
No response.
VOICE (cont?d)
You remember too well.
Dreben turns his head.
DREBEN
(to person off)
No. I?m too romantic.
JOE(41) sits in the corner. Taking notes. Dark suit. He sniffels. Stands up with a grin and a silent shake on his head and walks out
The prison cell. The doors close with a loud CLANG.
END
